About us

The team and craft behind every print

Goodwin Printing is a full-service 3D print shop based in Portland, Oregon. We combine production-grade equipment with hands-on expertise to deliver parts you can trust — on time and on spec.

Our story

Built by makers, for makers

Goodwin Printing started in 2016 as a small prototyping shop in Portland, Oregon. Our founder, James Goodwin, spent weekends printing parts for local inventors and engineering students who needed reliable turnaround without enterprise-level minimums.

Word spread quickly. What began as a single Prusa in a garage grew into a full production floor — and eventually, an online platform that lets anyone upload a model and receive professional-quality parts at their door.

Today we serve everyone from solo product designers to Fortune 500 R&D teams. The mission hasn't changed: give every builder access to the same precision, materials, and care we would want for our own projects.

Our mission

“Make professional-grade 3D printing as straightforward as ordering anything else online — without compromising on quality, communication, or craft.”

We believe great ideas shouldn't stall because of tooling costs or long lead times. Our job is to remove friction from prototyping and production so you can focus on designing, testing, and shipping.

Quality commitment

Precision you can measure, consistency you can count on

We treat every order — whether it's a single prototype or a 500-unit production run — with the same attention to detail. Our quality system is built around transparency, not surprises.

Documented workflows
Every job follows a standardized checklist — from file validation through final packaging — so results stay consistent across runs and reorders.
Dimensional verification
Critical dimensions are spot-checked with calibrated calipers and gauge pins. Tight-tolerance jobs receive full inspection reports on request.
Material traceability
We source filament and resin from trusted suppliers and log batch numbers for every print. You always know exactly what your parts are made from.
Printability review
Before any job enters the queue, our team reviews wall thickness, overhangs, and orientation — catching issues that automated slicers often miss.

Production process

From upload to doorstep in five clear steps

You always know where your project stands. Our process is designed to be predictable, communicative, and fast — without cutting corners on the shop floor.

  1. Step 01

    File review & consultation

We inspect your STL, OBJ, or STEP file for printability issues, recommend orientation and material, and confirm specs before anything hits the printer.

  2. Step 02

    Slicing & scheduling

Our technicians optimize layer height, infill, and support structures for your material and use case, then slot the job into the production queue.

  3. Step 03

    Printing & monitoring

Parts are printed on calibrated FDM or SLA equipment with live monitoring. Failed layers trigger automatic pauses so nothing ships substandard.

  4. Step 04

    Post-processing & finishing

Supports are removed, surfaces are cleaned or smoothed, and optional finishing — sanding, priming, painting, or vapor smoothing — is applied.

  5. Step 05

    Quality check & shipping

Every order passes a final inspection, is photographed for your records, and ships in protective packaging with tracking the same or next business day.

Equipment overview

The right tool for every job

We invest in production-grade equipment and maintain it on a strict calibration schedule. That means fewer failed prints, tighter tolerances, and materials your project actually needs.

FDM / FFF
Industrial FDM farm
A fleet of enclosed, high-temperature FDM printers capable of engineering plastics — ABS, ASA, nylon, and carbon-fiber composites — with build volumes up to 300 × 300 × 400 mm.
  • ±0.1 mm accuracy
  • 12+ materials
  • 24/7 unattended printing
SLA / Resin
Resin printing suite
High-resolution SLA systems for miniatures, dental models, jewelry masters, and any part where surface finish and fine detail matter more than structural bulk.
  • 25–50 μm layer height
  • Smooth surface finish
  • Multiple resin types
Scanning
3D scanning & reverse engineering
Structured-light and laser scanners capture physical objects at sub-millimeter accuracy. We clean meshes, align geometry, and deliver print-ready files.
  • 0.05 mm scan accuracy
  • Mesh repair included
  • CAD conversion available
Post-processing
Finishing & assembly station
Dedicated workstations for support removal, sanding, vapor smoothing, priming, painting, thread tapping, and heat-set insert installation.

Typical project timeline

What to expect from first upload to delivery

Timelines vary by material, quantity, and finishing options — but most standard FDM orders follow this path. Rush service can compress the schedule when you need parts sooner.

  1. Day 1

    Upload & instant quote

Drop your 3D model into our quote tool. Select material, color, and finish options — pricing updates in real time, no account required.

  2. Day 1–2

    Review & confirmation

Our team reviews your file for printability. If we spot an issue, we'll reach out with recommendations before you commit to the order.

  3. Day 2

    Order & production start

Once you approve and pay, your job enters the production queue. You'll receive an order confirmation with an estimated ship date.

  4. Day 2–4

    Print & finish

Your parts are printed, post-processed, and pass quality inspection. We send a photo confirmation before packaging.

  5. Day 3–5

    Ship & deliver

Orders ship with tracking via UPS or FedEx. Most standard jobs arrive within 2–5 business days of upload.

Our team

The people behind your parts

We're a team of engineers, technicians, and makers who care about getting your project right. When you reach out, you talk to real people — not a chatbot.

James Goodwin

Founder & CEO

Mechanical engineer by training, James started Goodwin Print to give independent makers the same production quality he wished he had during his own product launches.

Amanda Reyes

Director of Operations

Amanda oversees the production floor, scheduling, and quality systems. She previously managed lean manufacturing at an aerospace supplier.

David Kim

Lead Print Technician

David calibrates every machine on the floor and develops material profiles for new filaments. If a print can be done, David finds the settings.
